| Getting "COMCTRL32.DLL" error when
starting into Windows 95
Turn the computer off and wait for 30 seconds; as you turn on the computer
again, wait for a beep. As the computer beeps or when you see the message Starting Windows
95, press your F8 key to get the Startup menu. In the startup menu, choose the option for
Safe Mode command prompt.
Once at a C:\> type cd\windows\system press enter then
type ren commctrl.dll commctrl.old press enter. Then get your Windows95
cd or a cd that has windows95 on it; once the cd is in, type extract
x:\win95\precopy1.cab kommctrl.dll or if this is invalid type
extract
x:\win95\precopy2.cab kommctrl.dll (x represents the letter of
your CD-ROM drive, so this may be D, E, or Q). Once the file has
been copied, type ren kommctrl.dll commctrl.dl press enter, reboot
computer and issue should be resolved.
16-Bit app Error when trying to print
This happens when trying to print with another 16/32 Bit communication app
open at the same time. An example of this is Comm Central or NEC Connections. To resolve this issue, click on Start / Run, and type
system.ini and press enter; this should take you to the system notepad.
Look between the [boot] and [keyboard] section for a line that has
comm.drv listed in it; ensure this line says comm.drv=comm.drv, if it has something such as
pbcomm.drv=comm.drv, remove the pb from the line. Additionally, if you have more
than
one comm.drv=comm.drv line, remove it so there is only one. Once the above has been done,
save and exit out of the file and reboot the computer, and this should resolve your issue.
