Can CD-ROM drives be mounted vertically?

Question:

Can CD-ROM drives be mounted vertically?

Answer:

CD-ROM drives have the capability of running horizontally and vertically. When running the drive vertically it is recommended that the drive's eject button be placed near the the top of the machine for ease of use as well as some manufacturers only recommend placing drives in this way.

Additionally, when placing the CD in the drive, if you have tabs available, it is recommended that they be used to help prevent inconsistencies or errors when reading the CD-ROM drive vertically.
