Issue:

How to prevent Windows 98 DVD player from loading.

Cause:

If the Windows 98 DVD player is associated or set by Windows as the default DVD player when a DVD is placed in the computer the Windows 98 DVD software may load.

Solution:

The below steps will direct you to remove a key from the registry; if you are unfamiliar with the registry or need to know how to back it up, see our Registry Page.

Run Regedit
Locate and delete the below key from the registry.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\DVD\shell\play\command

Or point it to the DVD player you wish to play your DVD movies.
