Prevent Microsoft
Outlook from automatically connecting to the Internet.
Issue:Prevent Microsoft Outlook from
automatically connecting to the Internet.
Cause:Microsoft Outlook, by default, will
attempt to connect to the Internet if an Internet connection is not
present.
Solutions:
Microsoft Outlook 2000 users
- Click Tools from the top drop down menu
- Click Options
- Click the "Mail Delivery" tab
- Uncheck the option to check for messages every x minutes.
Additionally, Microsoft Outlook 2000 users can also have Outlook
prompt on dial-up connection through this window.
Microsoft Outlook 9x users
- Click Tools from the top drop down
menu
- Click Services
- Highlight "Internet Mail"
and click properties
- Click the "Connection"
Tab
- At the bottom of the connection tab
either specify work offline, or change the scheduling to a higher
number.
