Preventing Microsoft Windows from prompting for a CD.

Question:

Preventing Microsoft Windows from prompting for a CD.

Reasoning:

Users who often find the computer prompting for Windows system files each time they wish to install a computer hardware device may wish to have those files on the hard disk drive to help prevent them from having to insert the CD each time.

Answer:

Copy the Microsoft Windows cabs and/or system files from one of the directories specified below to the computer hard disk drive. This will enable you the ability to point to the folder that contains the windows system information. Commonly, this directory is "C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS".

Operating System Cabs CD Directory
Windows 95 users D:\WIN95 *
Windows 98 & Windows 98 SE users D:\WIN98 *
Windows ME users D:\WIN9X *
Windows NT users D:\I386 *
Windows 2000 users D:\I386 *
Windows XP users D:\I386 *

* This location may change if your CD-ROM drive is not the "D" drive and if the CD was created by the computer manufacturer.
