How can I obtain the file for an external MS-DOS command?

Question:

How can I obtain the file for an external MS-DOS command?

Reasoning:

Users who may have read about a MS-DOS command that is not available in their version of MS-DOS or Windows may wish to download the file for their computer.

Answer:

Because each version of MS-DOS and/or Windows is different many of the external commands that are not available in your version of MS-DOS / Windows are not going to be compatible. Therefore if you wish to have an external command that is not available in your version of MS-DOS / Windows you will need to find a third-party utility or program capable of doing the same function.

There are hundreds of different companies and users who have created commands cable of doing many of the functions found in MS-DOS commands as well as some programs capable of doing things not found in any MS-DOS command. Performing a search on any popular search engine for "command line", "download", and/or "windows" and a brief description of what you are looking to do. For example: "windows command line edit files download" would find Windows command line editors.

Note: Some commands may work if copied directly from another computer running the version of Windows or MS-DOS that supports the command to your computer. However, this is not recommended because of incompatibility issues as well as legal issues.
