How can I tell if my computer case fan is sucking or blowing air?

Question:

How can I tell if my computer case fan is sucking or blowing air?

Answer:

Case fan air arrowsMany computer case fans today will have small arrows on one of the sides of the fans to help indicate which way the air is blowing. As can be seen in the picture to the right, the fan is blowing down. Look for a small arrow indication to see which direction the air is blowing.

Unfortunately, not all case fans will have these arrows. So it will require some additional investigation if your unable to find any arrow on the case fan. Often, the easiest method would be to plug the fan in and place a tissue on one of the sides of the fan to determine if it blows away from the fan or sucks into the fan.
