How do I disable Windows Aero?

Question:

How do I disable Windows Aero?

Answer:

Windows Aero was first introduced in Windows Vista and adds a translucent and glass like graphic user interface. This interface is more resource hungry than previous versions of windows, and some users may find it not necessary. Below are the steps on how to disable this feature.

Note: Windows Vista Home Basic does not have Windows Aero.

Windows 7 users
  1. Right-click on the Desktop.
  2. Click Personalize
  3. Within the Personalize Window scroll down to the Windows 7 basic theme and select it.

Windows Vista users

  1. Right-click on the Desktop.
  2. Click Window Color and Appearance
  3. Select Windows Vista Basic and then click ok.
