Cave Story

Cave Story, also known by its Japanese name Dōkutsu Monogatari, is a freeware video game created by Daisuke Amaya. First released for the PC in 2004, it's a 2D story-driven platformer developed over the course of two years in the author's free time, inspired by his favorite 8-bit games from childhood. The game slowly gained a tremendous cult following, and in response to its popularity, an enhanced version titled Cave Story+ was released for the Steam platform in 2011. Later, a 3D version of the game, Cave Story 3D, was released for the Nintendo 3DS.
