Black and white spiral fractal.

Short for Fractal Image Format, FIF is a graphics file format maintained by the content management company Interwoven that uses fractal geometry to compress images. Storing images at ratios as high as 2500:1, FIF employs lossy compression techniques tailored to the repetitive and self-similar nature of fractals. As fractals can be expressed in mathematical terms, images can be recorded as repeated patterns rather than the needing to represent each pixel individually. As a result, this technique allows smaller file sizes without sacrificing image quality.
