Fiber Optic Service, known as FiOS, is a data transmission technology utilizing fiber optic cables to create broadband networks. This technology, utilized by Verizon in their FiOS service, helps to bring the fast data transmission speeds to home Internet users.

Verizon began offering their FiOS service in 2005 and offers not only Internet service with this technology, but also television and telephone service (both regular and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) phone service). Verizon claims their FiOS service is up to 25 times faster than traditional cable network service.
