Procedural is an adjective that describes a step-by-step way of going through a plan or process. More specifically, it refers to a set of rules or steps followed to accomplish a task. For example, procedural generation involves a computer algorithm consisting of rules followed to create environments or the objects contained in them. These rules may place limitations like creating only so many objects in an area or helping to match the ground height of connected areas in an environment. Without these rules, the randomly created area may contain an unrealistic render.
