Restore

  1. Also known as a system restore, restore is a term used to describe the process of reverting a computer back to its original configuration or an earlier copy. Often a restore is done because of one or more of the following reasons.

    a.) Serious data corruption or other serious error that cannot be resolved.
    b.) Wish to remove all old software and programs and get it back to how it was when you first purchased it.
    c.) Wish to remove all personal data because plan on selling the computer or plan on giving it away.

    Microsoft also introduced the System Restore with Windows XP. Additional information about this feature can be found on the System Restore definition.
     
  2. A term used to describe the process of recovering lost or old data from a backup.
  3. The process of taking a window that has been minimized and restoring it back to maximized or its original setting. In Microsoft Windows the user does this by clicking on the window button in the Windows Taskbar.
