Sequential access

Also known as serial access, sequential access is a type of method of retrieving data from a storage device. With sequential access, the device must read or move through all information up to the point it is attempting to read or write to. A tape drive is an examples of a sequential access drive, where the drive must move the tape forward or backwards until it reaches its destination.
