Pin Grid Array

Short for staggered pin grid array, SPGA is how an IC (integrated circuit), such as a microprocessor or a microcontroller, is attached to a PCB (printed circuit board). The term "staggered" refers to the arrangement of the pins or connectors on the IC package, sometimes called intersecting squares.

The SPGA layout was popular with Socket 5 and Socket 7 Intel processors. However, newer technologies such as BGA (ball grid array) and LGA (land grid array) became more prevalent as they offer advantages with electrical performance and heat management.
