When talking about a MMORPG a tank refers to a player character who is capable of taking all or most of the damage for the group or party. Often a tank is a warrior type class who is capable of wearing heavy armor that allows him to get hit hard but not take as much damage as a class who is incapable of wearing heavy armor.
