Top News Story: Comcast to Buy TechTV, Merge It with Game Channel

reuters.com -- Comcast Corp., the largest U.S. cable company, on Thursday said it would buy TechTV, the cable channel devoted to the technology industry, from Vulcan Programming for an estimated $300 million in a move to boost the subscriber base of its video game channel.

Worm exposes flaws in patch system: report
theage.com.au -- The Witty worm, which last week infected about 50,000 computers running the BlackICE firewall product sold by Atlanta-based Internet Security Systems, has exposed the "spectacular failure" of the current approach to computer security, a report says.

'Witty' Worm Wallops Thousands of Computers
washingtonpost.com -- A quickly spreading worm that emerged over the weekend damaged computers at several universities and at least one Web hosting company, according to the first wave of damage reports that began surfacing on Monday as system administrators returned to work.

* Security:

It's a (Real) Buffer Overflow Problem
Internetnews.com -- Digital media delivery firm RealNetworks on Friday confirmed a buffer overflow vulnerability in its Helix Universal Server product, warning that a root exploit could give an attacker "inappropriate access" to compromised system.

Hotmail, Yahoo Users at Risk of PC Takeover
Internetnews.com -- A potentially serious security flaw found in Web-based e-mail services offered by Microsoft and Yahoo could put millions of PCs at risk of takeover, an Internet security research firm warned Tuesday.
