PROM ( http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/p/progrrom.htm ) -
Short for Programmable Read Only Memory, Programmable ROM
or PROM is a memory chip that allows data to be written
to it once, using a programmable ROM programmer. The
information written to the PROM is never lost and
can never
be erased.

2. What's new in the news last week?
* Reuters: Apple Computer Inc. abandoned its ultramodern G4
Cube on Tuesday, saying it would suspend indefinitely production
of the personal computer, which has consistently failed to
live up to demand hopes.
* Reuters: Microsoft Corp. on Friday struggled to fix a three-day
outage of its instant messaging service that has affected up
to 10 million users of the product, a key component of the
software giant's strategy to offer new Web-based services.
* Reuters: Apple Computer Inc. said on Friday it was recalling
570,000 notebook computer power adapters that could be
fire hazards.
The power blocks were sold with PowerBook G3 notebooks
shipped from May 1998 until
March 2000, Apple said.

* Security:
- Online financial services provider S1 acknowledged Friday
that it suffered an electronic break-in last month, when an
unknown attacker exploited a security flaw to access one
of the company's servers.

This week we would like to talk about the Sony CRX200E/A1.
The drive takes the original CD format and doubles it. With
this drive and DD-R or DD-RW discs a user can record up to
1.3GB worth of data on one disc. This could potentially be
the replacement for the standard CD-R or CD-RW drives we
know today because of the affordable price and backwards
compatibility.
