    « on: March 28, 2010, 11:45:33 PM »
i cant use wifi on my laptop anymore. i can still go to the internet if i plug the cable to the laptop but whenever i try to access the internet using the wireless connection of the same network i receive an error. the wireless connection works fine on other computers so im pretty sure its something with the laptop not the network.
please help, any help will be appreciate. thank you!
i did a clean installation with windows xp on the laptop a month ago.

Have you been able to connect at all, since you reinstalled?

I'm confused.  You say you had problems connecting through wi-fi, so you switched to cable.  But  then you did a clean installation, but you haven't tried the wi-fi, after the installation ? ?

Does your WiFi support dynamic IP assignement?
Did it asked for encryption key?
        Is WiFi on notebook enabled?

Sorry if my posts are confusing!
I did a clean install a month ago, the wireless was working fine before the clean install. I always use the wire to connect to the Internet after the clean install. I notice the wifi problem yesterday because I did not try to connect to any wireless network since the clean installation. I try to connect to diffrent wifi the computer says I'm connected but IE says I'm not and gives me the same error everytime I try to access the web. I already reset the IE settings but it's still not working.

@salvosko i dont know about dynamic ip for the wifi, the computer says im connected but internet explorer says im not. yes wifi is enabled on the notebook.

Ok, then your WiFi is connected to nearest active part which is router, that is what system says.
IE is trying to connect further, to the public internet which does not work.
Compare network setting for WiFi and LAN adpater, it seems to me as DNS is not set properly for WiFi.

When you install XP on a laptop you must set up the wireless using the wireless wizard. You will need to have the right driver for the wireless device of your laptop. And you will need the WEP or WEPA key for your  wireless router.

Also, you need to have XP updated with services packs and other updates.

@salvosko how can i compare the DNS settings between LAN and WIFI.

@Geek9pm yes i updated xp but i didnt update the wireless driver. i already have a WEPA key for my wireless.

Go to Network connections and check TCP/IP properties for each adapter.
Or do ipconfig /all from cmd line and you should see that as well but both has to be enabled and active which could be a problem.
