    External Drives Not Recognized
    « on: June 19, 2010, 09:19:16 AM »
    Hello:

I have a pc with two external drives: D: CD & E: DVD.  Both are recognized and have updated drivers.  Both have power.  Ribbon cables are secure.  However, I cannot read or write to either drive.

    Your thoughts are appreciated.

How do they show up in Disk Management ? ?
Right clik My Computer...select Manage...then Disk Management...
Right clik each drive and select Properties...

PS do they have power adapters ?

So your D drive is a CD drive and your E drive is a DVD drive. Is that right?

You say that both of these drives are external but then you mention ribbon cables. Are you sure that they're not internal drives? If they are internal, have you checked your jumper settings?
