    HDD activity monitor
    « on: March 20, 2011, 03:58:55 AM »
I would like to know if there is a software program that will let me know when my hard disk and memory are being used. I would like this on my desk top, similar to what's on windows 7.

My computer is running XP PRO sp3.

The light on the front of your pc will tell you when the hd is active. Task Manager (performance tab) will give you info on memory usage.

Aren't both of these "being used" the whole time the OS is running?

Well, the hard drive is continuously running but I don't that's what we mean by "activity" here.   I think we can define hard drive activity to mean some read/write activity is taking place.  So, that should normally not be happening all the time.

I realize that I can look at mt CPU to see the flashing light, varying in intensity according to the activity. That's been the case since my 386/sx16
What I want is a ON SCREEN monitor so I don't have to get down under my desk and open the cabinet every time I wish to check.  Also that doesn't address the volatile memory ( RAM ) monitor either.
       Thanks for the help.
