Windows XP Major And Maybe Complicated Problem
« on: October 02, 2005, 03:31:49 PM »
Recently, a password was put on my Admin account in Windows XP. Every time I attempted to load the Firefox program, yesterday, I got an error message. So, I decided to reboot. When I rebooted, I got an error message at the password screen that Windows XP needed to run CHKDSK again, so I rebooted again.

When it came back to the password screen, it seemed to be very large, like zoomed in, and the keyboard and mouse do not work. They work as the computer is loading, and I can get into the BIOS and whatnot, but once Windows pops up, it's all over. So I can't even log into my account in order to fix whatever problems I have. I'm forced to ask this question from a different computer.

Any help?

Maybe whomever put the password on your computer could advise what they have done? That would sure make it easier to solve.

Was it a drive by password changer?

<--- Agrees with GX1.

Is there any other user account for this computer, or just your user account?  If there is more than one user account, is the other account an administrator account?

Is this Windows XP Home Edition or Professional?

I put the password on the account.

There is only one account, the Admin account.

It's Windows XP Professional.

Why would the mouse and keyboard stop responding, though?

So now you put the password on there  ::) , and you forgot it   :o or it doesn't work? Did you try the old one? Can you not go through the same steps to reset it?

I cannot put the password in at all because the keyboard does not respond. I cannot type. Period. I do know the password, but it doesn't help me at all when I can't put it in.

I attempted to go to Safe Mode, but there's still a password screen, and the keyboard and mouse still won't respond.

Is there aproblem in the BIOS that will not let you access USB devices (if that's what you are using)? or the PS/2 ports? What else has changed. I find it hard to believe that nothing unusal preceeded this.

Like I said, there was an error message that popped up, both before my initial reboot, and after my first reboot.

I'll check the BIOS once I get home, but what else should I look for?

I dunno why the stuff would shut down only when Windows starts, though. I can still use the keyboard to get to the BIOS screen and the mouse light is still on.

Is this with a hard-wired mouse and keyboard? If not, how are the mouse and keyboard powered?

Hard-wired? They're plugged into the computer and are powered by it.
