I just replaced the hard drive in my HP2000-299wm laptop with a crucial SSD, ordered a recovery CD set from HP, and everything is running fine except Windows update searches for updates endlessly, for hours, without ever listing any updates to install. The Installed Updates list is empty. I have let it run for 12 hours uninterrupted with no results. I've tried Microsoft Fix It tool, troubleshooter. Windows Update service and Background Intelligent Transfer Service are both running. What can I do next?

I would give MS a call...Update support is Free...

I called and was told that for a 1 time fee of $249.95 I will receive a 'service plan' and MS will send a technician to my house to fix my problem. She said that I can get a discount because I'm a double amputee with a disability check as my only income, but I still can't afford it. I saved for months in order to buy this new SSD.
Next question: I have another laptop running Windows 7. Can I copy the updates from that machine to a flash drive, then install them to this machine?

On the other issue i don't believe Updates can be copied and moved...they need the install process.

The link worked for me and I've had 2 Microsoft tech's connect remotely and try to find the problem. Neither was able to solve my problem and I will be receiving a call tomorrow morning from another Microsoft tech in order to dig into this issue further. I'll post whatever solution they find here to this thread for future reference. Until then......
Thanks guy's!  :)

888-506-7340 They say that they are "My Phone Support", a company that is "partnered with Microsoft".  The person that I talked to was not, in my opinion, very knowledgeable about my issue and wasted no time trying to sell me the "Service Plan" for $249.95.  >:(

The Microsoft tech started working via remote connection today @ 12:55pm until 5:13pm and did not find the cause of this problem. That's the 3rd tech so far and another will contact me to troubleshoot this issue further in the morning. At least I don't feel like an idiot for asking for help on an 'easy-to-solve' issue Lol Until tomorrow...

Good on you Lectro...'course it's likely a ploy for them to convince you to dump 7 for Win 10.... ;D

But the original rive still works? - Right?
Or was the old drive in trouble?

A number of article out there claim that one can migrate Windows 7 to a SSD and still have good optimum performance. But I don't know if that is really so. Other places say that what you are trying is the right way to do it. Fresh install with undulates over Internet.
But another says it is possible to download a pack that, when used correctly, does a cumulative update for Windows 7 and you download it as a complete file.
http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2016/05/windows-7-now-has-a-service-pack-2-but-dont-call-it-that/
I have not tried it, but the topic is considered on other sister and they seem to say it works.  Hee is another link about the cumulative download.

So,maybe you need to try all over again. 8)
