    Upgrading RAM (URGENT!)

     I'm upgrading my RAM to 4GB and i'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit. I've heard mixed opinions about what exactly it will recognize, and i'm curious as to whether or not i made a bad choice. Haven't installed the 4GB yet. Should i even install it? Also, i've recently upgraded from 1GB to 2GB and and its using 800 to 900MB just idling. Is that normal?

      Vista 32 will not be able to utilize the full 4gb so it's just a waste of ram.

      The amount of memory the system uses while idling depends on how many programs you've got running in the background. You might want to review the programs that starts up automatically with windows and see if you really need them.

        Well, you were right Deerpark. It Only recognizes 2.99GB, even though my bios shows 4. But i only paid $45 more than what 2GB cost. Thanks though.

            LOL, sorry. I paid $225 for 2GB and $270 for 4GB.(3 actually :'()

            Luckily Best Buy Refunded my $225 For the 2GB. Sorry, But i got 2, 512GB sticks here if anyone's interested.

            About the 900 mb ram used while idling, Vista has a new feature that loads programs into RAM that it expects you will run based on which programs you run the most. On my computer (it's only got 1 GB RAM running home premium) if I just turned my computer on the system seems kinda slow. If I wait a few minutes the system feels much more responsive because Vista loaded lots of stuff into RAM. When you run programs that need a lot of RAM Vista unloads the stuff you aren't using.

              OK, i see now. My system does the same Soviet. Thanks for the info.

              Yeah, 512GB.... u know what i mean. unless your willing to pay for 512"GB"!? ;)
