I thought it could be another added bonus section for the forums to add a "Reviews" section. A place where visitors can post their own personal review on a software product, hardware product, and/or company or service. Thought this could be helpful for those people who wonder about what type of video card they should be or anti-virus program they should install on their computer or just want to know the good/bad on a product.
Something to think about:
To make them meaningful and useful, would it be a good idea to provide an outline? ... broad as it may be.
If not an outline, then at least some guidelines?
Try to conjure up in your mind the kind of review you would expect patio or Calum to write.
Now compare that to a youthful, pissed off member that doesn't know how to configure his new equipment, and writes a 'review', "I just bought an XYZ, and it SUUUUUCKS!"
Perhaps this is not the best example, but I hope I'm getting my point across.
I'm thinking we want to minimize the second type, and promote what I expect from the first type.
I'm thinking that if approved by the community (you all) that we'd start it off in the "Other" section. If it blossoms into something big
Would relegating it to the "Other" section impede its growth though?
Good info would be mixed in with all the other posts.
I guess I should ask: Is it a real chore to add another sub-board? If not, then even if "Reviews" was under "Other", that would at least seperate out the posts and make them easier to refer others to.
Again - just something to consider.
where there are too many posts to go through or we want it to be more specific, e.g. hardware only reviews we could also do that in the future.
Let me know what you think and/or other ideas that may follow this same concept.
I think it is an excellent idea. It has the potential to be yet another very useful aspect of CH.
