Opera

Greetings, I have recently acquired a computer -Dell Model WHL-XPS with XP-home installed. The only browser currently installed is "Opera". Had never heard of it before--of course there are many things i have never heard of before. I do realize that ones choice of browsers is kind of a personal choice thing--like one choices in art. However i have had experience primarily with most versions of IE and some with Firefox (the latter gave me lots of problems).But that has been it so far. I would be interested to know what users of Opera (past and current) have to say re the pros's and con's related to it. I of course will continue to use it but your comments may facilitate my ultimate decision re retaining or discarding it. Thank you, truenorth

Haven't used it much but it is trusted just as much a Firefox is. Definitely a keeper if you don't mind learning it's ins and outs.

I use it and have never had a problem.

set up your speed dial function and you will be lovin' it!

you can also download torrents without adware prone software like bit/torrent/lord/comet and azurez etc.

I'm suprised to hear that you had issues with FireFox...normally it's the opposite.

Patio,I only had it some time ago installed on a computer that also had IE6 on it and from the time i installed it (FireFox) i began getting lots of freezes on both. I was constantly sending error reports to Microsoft. Once i deleted FireFox all returned to normal.truenorth

Sounds as if they were both fighting to be the default browser and were steppin on each others toes...do you remember if you set one or the other as Default ? ?

Patio, Yes i came to that conclusion myself (though i have to admit only due to the circumstantial evidence of their behavior when both were installed). Yes i retained IE6 as  default and only used FireFox on demand. I also had(and still have) the google tool bar installed. I,m afraid i never really gave Firefox a fair trial as i uninstalled it shortly after the problems occur ed. I am currently trying Opera on a computer where it exists by itself. If my memory serves me right it seemed to me (at least on Win98) that it is very difficult if not impossible to "remove IE".Didn't Bill lose some court cases on that issue (in Europe i believe)? truenorth

I agree with Broni above...
And yes IE is problematic to remove and actually should not be attempted.
Best to just delete the Desktop shortcut and just pretend it's gone.

I actually leave it on customer machines but i change the target to point to Firefox....
