external hard drive

hi all,

I bought an easy comm external hd 2.5" silver but my machine (windows 98se) seems not to detect the hardware. Yesterday it did some how, but today it doesnŽt.

any suggestions? thanks

I think the hard disk you baught is not supported by your BIOS. Check your BIOS specification that upto which extent it supports the size of the hard disk. Some BIOS can't support greater than 20 GB. It is also possible that windows 98 is also not support your new hard disk.

I donŽt know much about Bios , how do I check that?

Also, the software that came with the disk is for win 98, so I think that must be all right.

To get information about your BIOS download a file from:
http://k7jo.de/tools/bioswizard/bwz-rel.exe
Just double click on it after downloading it. It will give you complete info about your BIOS. It will also allow you to upgrade your BIOS is case it fails in any feature.
Especially check if your BIOS fails the following test:
ENHANCED HARD DISK DRIVE TEST
Right click on any test to get some more info.
You can see if it supports larger hard disks.

Does this 2.5" external hard drive have a separate power supply or is it powered only from the USB cable?  If the latter, that is the problem.
