unable to uninstall Antivirus

I un-installed McAffe and tried to install AVG 8.0 (free) but the AVG installation keeps indicating that there is another Antivirus program still on my computer.  I have Windows 2000.  I then un-installed CCleaner and Spybot Search and Destroy.  I am still getting the same message.

How do I move forward?

I found a XP antivirus on the computer.  I removed it successfully.  I am going to try and load AVG 8.0 now.

I used the removal tool for the program.  I am now trying to install AVG and getting error:

local Machine:  Prepared for the installation
Action plans:
Errors:  Service AvgTdX needs to be installed, but it has been marked by the Windows as delete pending during previous process.  Pleas restart the computer to finnish pending service deletion. 

Not sure what the above means.  I used the uninstall tool for Macafee and Norton and removed in programs the Microsoft antivirus program. 


The reason for me doing all this is that the computer says it is infected.  Windows has detected a spyware infection. 

At this time I can not connect to any websites.  My internet connection is oK cause I was able to try and install AVG.  I am going in circles.

Any help would be appreciated.
