I did order a 512MB memory module and tried it in my machine....did not work.
That is what led me to the memory configurators and the discovery of the "phantom" 2nd slot.
As for upgrading to a newer machine......for what I use this machine for I really can't justify the expense.
Now it is more of a "challenge" to find out how to add memory to this machine than it is a necessity.
I haven't given up yet!
