    I just did a clean install of Windows XP on a Dell Latitude C810, now there is no sound.  The touchpad will not work and it freezes constantly when on windows explorer.  A USB mouse will work.  All of the drivers are showing as being installed in the device manager.  I reinstalled the touchpad and sound drivers from the dell site to be sure but still nothing.  The touchpad is enabled in the setup as well.  Any Ideas???

    Dell is finicky about device drivers...
    If you didn't use the factory Dell Driver CD you are probably running on generic Windows drivers...
    This sometimes will just not cut it.

    Travel to the Dell site and enter your Service Tag # from the back of the machine...all your drivers will be listed.
    Install the MBoard chipset drivers 1ST ! !

      There is no service tag # on the back.  I punched in the model Latitude C810.  A list of drivers came up and I do not see any that say chipset.  I had already installed the sound driver and touchpad but t didn't make any difference.

      Download and run Belarc Advisor and it will report your service tag number to you.

        Ok I did download the chipset driver thank you Broni.  That seemed to speed the computer up.  I downloaded a new video driver and the freezing on explorer has stopped.  There is no service tag on this computer.  Scan from the Dell site tells me this and in setup it tells me no service tag installed.  So I just used the model.  I have discovered that there is sound comming through the headphones but just not the main speakers.  And the touchpad is still not working.  Thanks again to everyone for the help.  Im almost there.

        Did you try to get touchpad drivers from Dell's site?

          I got the same results from the Dell scan tool the first couple of times I tried it. Then I got back on a couple days later and tried again. It worked this time for some reason. You might try a couple more times. That way if it works you'll have the info you'll need for future reference.

            yes I did run Belarc and there was no service tag on that either.  And I downloaded the touchpad driver from Dell and no go.

              If Belarc does not display a service tag number there's something very wrong here.
