emachine computer monitor

my emachines computer monitor goes black a few seconds after ithe computer is turned on or awaken, The monitor is lit up every time i turn the monitr  is turned on but it only stays lit for a few seconds before it goes black. my computer is approx 11/2 years old. Can you help?

Can you tell us some more about your PC?

Is the monitor connected through a video card, or the onboard video?

Hook the monitor up to another PC...if the monitor works it's something with your machine...if it doesn't work chances are it's the monitor...
