Monitor not receiving signal from computer.
    « on: February 08, 2009, 04:18:51 PM »
Previously I had an old 80lb 22 inch monitor!! I recently decided to replace with a 20 Dell flatscreen.  when I plugged in my new flat screen, I get the "No Signal From Computer" msg. I thought maybe it was because my computer is about 5 years old-built by a friend and maybe the Dell Monitor needed specific drivers, etc. for it.  So I replugged my old monitor in and it won't work either.  I just get a loud irritating-piercing "Beep" when I try to reboot.  Since I can't see anything on the monitor -I don't know what is going on.  I have hooked up another older Dell Monitor I have and I get the same problem.  I have checked all the montiors-hooked up to another computer and the monitors all work.  Could I have a bad connector for the monitor on my computer- bad  video card- bad mother board?  It seems strange that my old monitor was working fine-I just wanted a lighter weight flat screen and when I tried to replace-it broke!!

Please help me.  I am a die-hard scrapbooker and all my pictures on are my computer and I can't get to them...Thank you. :'(

When switching monitors, was the computer on?

Since no other monitor wants to work, it looks like something happened to the video card.
Is it on-board video, or dedicated card?

???I'm not sure what you mean- but a friend built the computer about 5 years ago and it is what he installed.

Look at the back of your computer. In which area is the monitor connected?

Sorry for the delay in replying-since I can't use my computer I don't check my messages elsewhere as often as I should.  My monitor is connected in Area 2

Then, you have real video card. Most likely, you need new card.
They're cheap, and easy to replace.

I have an eMachines, and have the same problem, but my monitor was installed directly to the monitor inlet on area 1. I installed a new video card (Area 2), and still get the same problem. If there are any other suggestions you, or anyone else has. Please, post them. I would like to get this thing up and running. Thank you. ><>

You need to start your own topic.
