Just wondering if any body knows if it is possible to get a copy of XP if you have your original serial number. My computer came preinstalled and I have since used a pirate copy for a fix to get my computer running. original serial number is on the bottom of my laptop any help would be appreciated.

If your machine has a legit XP # then you can use any XP CD to do a reinstall...
If it doesn't then we can no longer assist...

I thought that was the case but when I tried to use my XP CD the other day on a Dell I picked up at a garage sale it wouldn't let me. My copy is a legit Home Edition and I was trying to use the Dell product key on the sticker on the case (also Home Edition). I ended having to use my product key which I didn't want to do.

Any ideas? (not meaning to hijack the thread).
