Boot takes too long

When my computer boots it take about 3 mins to boot then a double beep.  After that it boot to XP home and run slow.  Help

Do you think that I have a boot virus.  I do have a hardware and software firewall and virus protection.  Could I have a cmos or hardware issue?  all my hardware works and the comuter work ok except its slow.
