what happened?

I have Earthlink total access internet and the other day my dad downloaded some updates for it. The first time i signed on after that, everything worked fine but now when i try to send or recieve an instant message on AIM, instant messenger shuts down. The same thing happens when i try to run a scan on my anti virus software. I dont think its a virus because everything else seems alright. I thought it might have been the pop up blocker but that didnt seem to fix anything when I turned it off. any ideas?

Which operating system are you using? Have you scanned for virsues/Spyware? Have you contacted Earthlink?
