If you are installing Windows 98 or Me or even Windows XP Home, these OSes cannot use RAID 1 or RAID 2. Windows XP Professional or Windows XP Media Edition should have no problem.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314343

If you borrow a Windows 2000 or Windows XP Professional CD, you can boot to the Recovery Console and run the Diskpart utility from the command line to delete the RAID partitions:

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/recovery_run_console.mspx?mfr=true

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/dm_delete_volume.mspx?mfr=true

You can then boot to your Windows XP Home CD and Windows setup will give you the option to create a new partition during the installation process.
