standby issue

i dont know why but each time i click on standby, it does standby but only for 5 secs and returns back to the screen. my window XP, Hp Media Center Edition

ever since i got my computer reformatted, all the security check is up to date

I suspect some background program waking your computer up.
Download, and run HijackThis: http://majorgeeks.com/Trend_Micro_HijackThis_d5554.html
Run it from its own directory, like C:\HijackThis, not from desktop, or temp directory.
Post its log at "Computer Viruses and Spyware".
