    really slow pc

    my pc is running very slow. the son installed software downloads after being told not to. these have been uninstalled. i suspect viruses etc are lurking in pc have tried to re install xp but get blue screen saying it was stopped as problem was detected macafee says there are no infections nothing seems to clear the problem.

      Make sure ur Anti-virus is updated before scan, if not, latest viruses wouldn't be detected. If problem persist, then maybe your OS might have been corrupted due to the download. You also reinstall your OS

      Trizle....You obviously don't know what's up.

      What you're suggesting is not possible. If the system is corrupted, it wouldn't boot.

        Why don't you ask how he ran a virus scan on a window which as u say can't boot

          My pc is running xp home. its amd64 athlon
          using macafee uninstalled it earlier then re installed it. as it was n't running properly.
          scan says nothing found.
          now when switching on pc 
          i get black screen asking to choose startup xp home or set up
          after trying to re install  xp a blue screen appears saying a problem was detected and set up stopped to protect pc.
          even when clicking on my user name the load up of persoal settings takes an age

          Do you have a CD in the drive?

          When did this start? Did all this start after reinstalling Mcafee?

          Can you get into Windows?

            I'm sorry, but I don't see where Carbon claims it won't boot. I do see this, however, the closest thing I could find:

            Those are the question you should be asking

            and he just did. We didn't have enough information originally to make a complete diagnosis and thus plan a course of action, or further questions to help isolate the problem.

            I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.
