BIOS version: (73N2P01) EVALUATION ROM-NOT FOR SALE
    « on: April 05, 2009, 10:27:34 AM »
    Hello everybody,

I have a nForce 650i Ultra mainboard( by EVGA).Just installed "Everest" on my PC and...
big surprise: in the BIOS section is written:

    "BIOS type Award
BIOS version (73N2P01) EVALUATION ROM-NOT FOR SALE".

Please tell me what does it mean?

Well Victor , could be a golden opportunity to upgrade your system.

I'd get a hold of the Award people and ask them why you have evaluation ROM. Especially if it's not for sale. If they can't tell you why you have it, they'll probably want to see it.........That's where you jump in and offer to send it to them for a honkin' new, legitimate, upgrade for your time and diligence. Who knows you may have cracked a security problem for them if these are disappearing from the factory.

Then again they may be dumping .......

Award won't do anything for this....
If the machine runs properly ignore it...

O golden oportunity you say?I'm sure I'm deserving it because more then one year I have had a lot of problems with my PC( I think that this is a beta version of BIOS or worst). Also, I spent some good money for purchasing new hardware components( for example, freezing during the POST : I've tried everything, including the purchase of a new hardisk and so on).
        What a *censored*!!!
And Patio, what about my troubles?I have bothered also you some time ago with some weird USB problems.
Anyway, my PC is not working normally.

Blaming issues on a specific string regarding the BIOS is chasing a red herring.

Also Award no longer exists and I believe is a part of Phoenix technologies.

Freezing during the post I have seen caused by several factors:

        bad/unseated RAM.
a whiny expansion card (usually a cheap-o USB 2 card or network interface card)

Also, some PCs refuse to boot based on specific USB parameters, such as if you shut down the PC, remove a USB device, and restart, sometimes it'll take a few cold boots.

I haven't a clue why it does that.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

Look BC, I gave you some incomplete examples. So, the POST freezing is not in link with the USB problems. Both are things which happened independently. In all, my computer is not working normally( for example, sometimes when I'm making a image with, let's say, Alcohol, suddenly a blue screen appears...Yes, of course, you can say that this can be a drivers problem but I can assure you that all the software is all right and very well checked on my PC.These are some issues from a lot of weird problems that are happening in my PC.The only explanation( believe me, I've worked a lot) can be a beta version of BIOS.

          NOT FOR SALE
That says it all. Did they tell you that your would have to provide your own BIOS? You did not pay for a BIOS, or you were sold a STOLEN Bios.

In the industry that is never put on equipment going out to the general public unless there is some wavier or warning from the seller.

What would you do if you went to a store
and saw cooking oil labeled NOT FOR RETAIL SALES?.

Beta bioses do slip through; board replacement is the usual course of action.

              Ah Dell.......

              http://evert.meulie.net/2009/03/30/evaluation-copy-not-for-sale/

So, there are some other similar cases.Oh my, what are those men doing? They know better to take us a lot of money of for their crap.
Anyway, can somebody tell me who is responsible for my trobles( from law point of view):
              -Phoenix( BIOS producer);
              -EVGA( mainboard manufacturer)
-or my vendor from my country( I bought the mobo as a single piece and not in a system).
              Thank you for your answers.

Consult local law, in the UK it would be the vendor (who must by law only sell goods that are fit for their purpose).

                Look at that:
I've sent e-mails to all: Phoenix( their men from my country), EVGA( to sales department in their country) and to my vendor( PC Garage, but sure you didn't hear about them). The only ones who have has some reaction was my vendor. So, they are from my country and also my city, they have my phone number, but they only started an e-mail based conversation with me( one e-mail per day).In their tiny brains perhaps they are thinking that the mobo's warranty will be off, but for me are remaining another 9(nine) months (thanks God).
Anyway, I'll try to gave them the same pain I've fell one year.
Perhaps I shall open a web page to let other people to know about this infamy.
                Sorry, but I'm very angry.

Remember Victor...Squeaky wheel gets the grease.....make lots of noise......I'm sure you must have a ministry of consumer affairs in your country. They would probably be interested in this fraud as well. Good Luck.

Does this board have a BIOS flash available for it? If so you may want to flash it with a non beta flash.

The vendor probably didn't even know. They don't unpack & test each board. There was no "infamy" involved. Just make sure the vendor puts things right.

In my country warranty applies to goods that were Ok when bought but failed later. Goods that were bad when sold have no time limit.
