Well, since the USSR broke up, wouldn't that make it the largest?

The United States of America, the only country that represents its self as being an island instead of as a part of a continent on an official map  ;D

Most, but not all, larger countries are divided into states, or some kind of smaller forms of more local government.  Canada has provinces and territories but they are more similar than different to what most countries call states.

The USA is often referred to as the States, but a whole lot of other countries also have states.

And that doesn't even begin to touch on what countries call them selves.  Sometimes states, Commonwealths, etc.

BTW, I'm sure someone would like to buy that amp and try to fix it.

There are actually a few U.S. states that are commonwealths (ex. commonwealth of Kentucky) but the only difference is the name.

I live in a Commonwealth, Commonwealth of Virginia, the laws are strange to people who don't live here. For instance, if you manage to evade the police and they have no proof that you where actually behind the wheel of the automobile in question, legally they can do nothing even if there is evidence that your vehicle was there. Like the Commonwealth of Kentucky however, you can own a "Machine gun" (any firearm that fires automatically) by registering with the state police. Open carry of firearms is also allowed. This, in contrast to the left coast (West Coast), and specifically, the State of California is like a whole 'nother country. Actually, let me rephrase that, California is like a whole 'nother country no matter which state or commonwealth you compare it too. The problem with the system of States and Commonwealths is that the local government bodies within each state and commonwealth can override the constitutional rights given to us. Example being, California, the second amendment and several other rights they have restricted or suspended.

The point being, the legality of anything is subject to question and legal interpretation by anyone in position to do so. So if your doing something questionable, the thing is not to get caught. IE, guitar amp in the dumpster, or, if you live in the USA, or several other countries you could possibly try to sell it online if it is a model that has any value. Laws vary, noone knows them all, except maybe the Rain Man.

yes but a "state" is really it's own country; being united with a single government didn't remove their individual state governments.

Commonwealth:A form of government, named for the concept that everything that is not owned by specific individuals or groups is owned collectively by everyone in the governmental unit, as opposed to a state, where the state itself owns such things; Approximately, a republic.

He's in the part of the "States" where they smoke maple leaves.

No. But I hear what they REALLY are smoking in BC is better than what people get in the US.
