Brain rot
Updated: 12/29/2024 by Computer Hope
The term brain rot describes the supposed deterioration of a person's brain from the overconsumption of low-quality material. For example, with today's media, brain rot could be experienced from the overconsumption of watching video shorts from a service like TikTok. With this type of content, the brain is not exercised and is only getting dopamine hits from finding entertaining videos. Consuming a lot of this content could lead to a person having difficulty focusing on anything requiring a lot of patience and brain activity (e.g., reading a book).
Note
In 2024, Oxford named "brain rot" the word of the year.
