Cosmetic
Cosmetic may refer to any of the following:
1. In general, a cosmetic change is a change that modifies the look of something without affecting its functionality. For example, a URL shortener changes the look of a URL (Uniform Resource Locator), but it still resolves to the full original URL. With a UI (User Interface), a cosmetic change would be a change to how something appears. For example, changing from light mode to dark mode is a cosmetic change.
2. With games, cosmetics are anything that changes the look of something without affecting gameplay. For example, a player that pre-orders a game may get a cosmetic outfit that helps differentiate them from everyone else, but gives them no advantage in the game.
Any item that gives the player an advantage, such as a storage bag with extra storage space, is not a cosmetic. Games offering these items with advantages that can be purchased with real money are considered pay-to-win games.
