Hard error
Updated: 09/15/2024 by Computer Hope

A hard error is an issue that occurs due to malfunctioning hardware, specifically data transmission and storage devices. A hard error is usually the result of a memory chip failure in the affected hardware. Common causes are exposure to an ESD (ElectroStatic Discharge) and pushing memory beyond its capabilities. Hard errors are unrecoverable and require replacement of the damaged unit.
