Kerberos

Developed by MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Kerberos is network authentication protocol designed to encrypt and secure data between two parties on an insecure network. Each user who signs on to the network is assigned a unique key, called a ticket, which is used to identify a message's sender.
