Phase change

Phase change is a step performed by CD-R (Compact Disc Recordable), CD-RW (Compact Disc Re-Writable), DVD-RAM (Digital Versatile Disc Random Access Memory), and DVD-RW (Digital Versatile Disc Read/Write) drives. Phase change involves changing the CD (Compact Disc) or DVD (Digital Versatile Disc) material from an amorphous state to a crystalline state, causing the surface to reflect light differently. Changing how the surface reflects makes it possible to create 0's and 1's (binary) on the disc.
