ribbon cable

A ribbon cable is a flat grey cable that is most commonly used today to describe the IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) or EIDE (Enhanced Integrated Drive Electronics) inside a computer. See the IDE definition for further information and pictures.

Note

Ribbon cables are used with parallel communication, which has been mostly replaced with serial communication cables like SATA (Serial AT Attachment) cables.
