Shopping cart

Alternatively called a cart, a shopping cart is a feature found in online shopping and e-commerce websites for adding multiple items they're interested in buying before checking out. Once the visitor is done shopping, they can view the shopping cart to see what was added and a total of all items. If satisfied, the visitor can proceed to checking out and purchasing all items in the shopping cart.

All sites with a shopping cart have an "Add to shopping cart" button. Most also have a picture of a shopping cart that can be clicked to view the items in the shopping cart.

What is an abandoned cart?

An abandoned cart is a shopping cart with one or more items in the cart that never completed checkout.

Tip

Some online store (e.g., Amazon) may give you discounts on items left in your shopping cart the next time you visit the site to help entice you to complete your order.
