- One of the world's first computer programmers. Bartik worked on the original digital computer, the ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer).
- In the past, the word "computer" originally referred to a job title for a human being. Bartik was hired as a "human computer" by the US Army after graduating in 1945.
