IPC$ error when attempting to connect to Windows NT or 2000.

Issue:

IPC$ error when attempting to connect to Windows NT or 2000.

Cause:

This issue is caused when the computer being used to connect to the Windows NT or 2000 machine is not specified in the user list. Additional information about IPC can be found on our IPC dictionary page.

Solution:

  1. Determine the username being used on the Windows 9x or Windows ME machine.
  2. Add this username to the Windows NT / 2000 machine. To add a user to the Windows NT / 2000 machine you must first either be logged in as the administrator or have administrator rights. If  you have these rights, click Start, Settings, Control Panel and double-click the "Users and Passwords" icon. In the Users and Passwords window, click the "Add" button and add the username of the Windows 9x or Windows ME machine.
