Parameter format incorrect or parameter format not correct error in DOS.

Question:

Parameter format incorrect or parameter format not correct error in DOS.

Answer:

This error occurs while in the MS-DOS command line in Windows NT, 2000, XP, Vista and later versions of Windows, and you're using the older command instead of cmd command when opening a command prompt.

Click Start, Run and type in cmd instead of command to get to the command prompt. Once in this screen, you should be able to perform the same command without getting the parameter format error.

Additional information:

  • See document CH000395 for additional information and about the differences between command.com and cmd.exe.
